Pete Palankay

Resident Engineer, Studio D
With a career spanning over four decades, Pete started in the film and television industry in 1977 as a trainee in the sound department at Crawford Productions. After honing skills in sound, they moved into music editing, cutting tracks for various series on ¼’’ and 16mm magnetic tape—sourced from custom vinyl discs made specifically for editing.

As the video era emerged, they continued in music editing, transitioning to magnetic tape and mixing on analogue multi-track systems. By the early ’80s, they joined AAV’s Sound Sweetening department, working on advertising, radio, and television. This involved analogue multi-track setups locked to U-matic video, mixed on a 24-track console, and transferred to video tape.

Freelancing soon followed, leading to work on TV mini-series and roles as a sound post-producer at HSV 7 and Channel 10. Over the years, their experience expanded across all facets of sound post-production—editing, recording, foley, sound design, mixing, and music production.

They have collaborated with industry leaders such as South Australian Film Corporation, Music and Effects, Gas Audio, AAV, General Direction, and Production Alley, among others.

Now, as the owner, engineer, recordist, mixer, and producer at The Recording Space, they continue to bring a wealth of expertise to every project, helping artists and filmmakers craft soundscapes that elevate their work.
